I went to Girl Mark's class here in Houston this past weekend and it was really alot of fun . I was honestly not really planning to go because I figured that I had already learned most of what you would find in a basics type class , but there was alot of really great discussion on some topics that most of us fail to research when we start home brewing . One of my favorites was the chemistry of what is happening while the reaction is taking place , I had read it before , but it was much more informamtive in the workshop setting . Me personally I studied more in the areas of testing and meathods when I started learning . The information that did not directly apply to what I needed to make fuel had little chance of retention given all that there is to learn and the short peroid in which I wanted to learn it . So going back over some of the information was really kinda nice , and I think it is alot more understandable after having more knowlede of biodiesel it self . So , yeah I did get something out of the class . I also got to meet several people in my area that are into biodiesel and starting to homebrew . Chris over at Houston Biodiesle was a great host for the event and really went out of his way to help with anything he could . We were able to use his processor and supplies to make a batch for demonstration purposes , and showed everyone how the prewash meathod works . I got to talk a little about Magnesol and brought a little for people to see what it looks like . There were even a few instances that brought up some old posts here there were relevant to subject matter and questions being asked , so in a way everyone here got to attend as well .

It is really amazing to see the way people reacted to Mark's presence . I really never thought of her as a celebrity or anything , but someone who had worked alot on the advancement of biofuels and was really a great source of information . With Mark beig there it was almost like Oscar night or something , people really idolise her more than I had expected . Not that she is unworthy of peoples adoration , but I never really thought of her that way and it was wierd to see peoples reactions to her . I won't even tell any of the weird parts , because there will be alot of people from the class coming to our forums . But it was really kinda neat .

The best part of the weekend was that we got to go to dinner with Mark and have a little time to visit about things other than biodiesel , and some biodiesel . Being Valentines weekend the nice place I wanted to take her to eat was just crazy busy and we opted instead to go across the highway and eat at Hooters . Not quite the best place in town , but it was a good time anyway . While the class was really neat there is little space and time in the schedule for much other than class content (that is alot to fit into two days) . It was really nice to also have some time to get to know a little more about some of the people here .

If in her travels Girl Mark makes it to your area this year I highly recommend making the effort to go . It was a great time and I would go again given the chance . If for no other reason than the chance to network with like minded people , but there is also alot of really good discussion as well .

Mark's class was great learned alot about the whole process, things I thought I had understood, really to find out I had a small grasp, but really understand and can do now. If you can go to her class go.
I agree Shannon meeting the people and building those relationships with people close was a of the best parts, meeting local people and people from all over really. Great Expierence.

I took a biodiesel class from Girl_Mark last October in CA. It was a great two day workshop that answered most of my newbie questions.

I also met a bunch of great people that are totally excited about making/using bio.

Mark told us about this forum and that is how I found out about it. I've been lurking for a while and just signed on recently.

When I first saw the subject of this thread, I misread it as "Girl Mark's a really cool lass" Smile
