Previously I was using a series of hydraulic filters to run my pre mixed blend through.
Worked ok, but Now Ive junked that system and have come up witth this... I have a 55 gallon drum with the waste oil/diesel/gas mix....this is pumped through a 200 mesh tank strainer. Then pumped through a series of filter bags (#3s) housed in 4" pvc....25 mic, 10 micron, then 5 micron.... The oil then passes into a "visi flo" oil filtration system (http://www.industrialnewsroom.com/fullstory/11347). The Cellulose acetate filter takes particulates out down to 1 mic. The oil then passes into an activated alumina filter which removes water and acids. This leaves me with a fuel a heck of alot better than anything you can buy at a pump. This is producing some beautiful fuel! Warhorse |

Hi Gents,
Im getting my bags from "Filter Pro"(1800 336 5441)...the cheapest bags Ive found...around 1.45 each...and they have a plastic ring sewn around the lip. as for the visi flow system...a friend at a university gave it to me, as the lab was throwing it away. It was never even used !... Its a pretty pricey system...designed for ultra precise laboratory work... I think you can get them through Mass Vac Inc.(http://www.massvac.com/dev/pages/prod_oil_filtration.html) From the company they are about $2500 but I recently saw one go on ebay for $49.95...so they are out there/available. Type " VisiFlow Oil Filtration System " into google to get a little more info on this unit. If youre running blends, I think Gravity filtering raw WVO is a waste of time. When you combine the diesel with WVO first in a collection vat - filter it over to your storage "fuel tank", and then add your gas, it makes life a whole lot easier. The diesel dissolves alot of troublesome organic compounds that make straight filtering a "P.I.T.A". Previously Ive added the gas at the collection vat with no problems, but would like to keep flammability as isolated as possible. To DN - Sorry I missed your previous posts indicating you were in the upstate. Im only about 15 miles from you. I tried to reply to your PM, but had browser difficulties. If your interested in local correspondece, please PM me again and include your e-mail address. I liked the idea you posted elsewhere of using compressed air to stir the blend. very best, Warhorse |

DN,
yes their site is here: http://fpfilters.com/home.html Its actually a crappy site - doesnt do them any justice, so I suggest you give them a ring.(1 800 336 5441)They are fairly helpful. I got my bags in about 5 days, they are pretty good quality for a 1.45~ each. Filterbag.com has a decent selection as well (more expensive), and theres a large minimum order. FilterPro will send you some sample bags and there didnt appear to be any minimum order. WH |
