hello all,

i will be installing an oil stove for the coming 2010 winter and want to know if i can blend HHO oil with WVO (tank will be installed in the house to minimize any gelling).

i will either be installing a Deville, Efel or Nestor Martin stove but i do not know which will burn best.

aside the stove choice is 50/50 blend too much?

i know i can make biodiesel and that will work with minimal problems if any but i am used to using WVO on my cars and would prefer to stick with that.

any help/direction would be great!!

evan

Even 50% WVO will clog your injectors with buildup of the same sticky stuff that is nearly impossible to remove from drums, or even a kettle used for frying up Spanish Wagon Wheels (yum).

A company in La Crosse, WI developed what they bill as the world's first oil furnace that can burn WVO without clogging. They are Inov-8 International, and their WVO furnace is still quite expensive. It works by inserting a needle into the injector nozzle to clean it out, multiple times per minute. They patented it in 2005 or 2006, but I've already heard of knock-offs on the market.

Their stuff is pricey, but you can get away with just their furnace and your own holding tanks, not theirs, to save a little dough. You can use your savings to buy a bag of Spanish Wagon Wheels and fry them up in some of the super-flavorful WVO (yum).

I shouldn't post before lunch...

i am not referring to a furnace.

i mean a fireplace that has a pot in and uses the same fuel as a furnace but its a fireplace.

is biodiesel my only choice?

Resin is a natural or synthetic compound which begins in a highly viscous state and hardens with treatment.
Typically, resin is soluble in alcohol, Any more detail click this link.

Yes, blending with WVO is being done by several folks. The percentage will depend on the specific burner design and how/if you make any modifications. I have been successfully burning 100% WVO in a drip fed pot burner of my own design for the last 3 winters, others with commercial made pot burners are using up to 70% WVO in there blends by modidying the fuel "carborater" (float based fuel feed regulator).

There are extensive discussions about this in the "biodiesel for heating" forum under the biodiesel section of this website.

can you direct me to a company that sells this kit (modified carberator). Is control of the fire still possible?

thanks

The following link goes to the "military heaters on ebay" discussion in the "biodiesel for heating" forum, there are many differant commercial pot burners discussed in the latter part of this discussion, some old, some new. Apparently these are common around Europe and info and parts are available, some new units appear to have carbureters that can burn biodiesel if the correct internal orifice/slot is installed. For high veg blends the folks have been modifying there fueloil carbs in differant ways (enlarging the fuel feed orifice and/or slot) to handle the much thicker veg blends, you will have to study the various posts to deturmine just what they have done for each different model of burner. A few use two different methods to feed the different fuels into the burner pot, they light the burner on fueloil using the normal carburetor, once the burner is hot they add the high veg blend using a seperate fuel feed that adds the heavy fuel directly into the burner from a seperate feed tube, some leave the carburetor set to the low startup amount of fuel plus adding the heavier veg, some shut off the carburetor once the heavy fuel is flowing and burning well.
