I'm running my Mercedes 300d blended up to 80% unmodified and doing fine so far(1month). I know it is hot here in central Florida but was wondering if I should be cold filtering? or is it needed in winter?

I cold filter as SOP because the temperature can get below 60°F for at least half the year. Below that temperature PHO and fats [and biodiesel made from them] can precipitate out and clog fuel systems. The cold filtering process I use separates the PHO and fats before the fuel goes into the tank, which eliminates clogging problems. I use a similar process for biodiesel as well.

Try these links. I do mine exactly the way John Galt describes.

I am in So Fl and I heat my oil before I filter down thru 25/10/1 micron bag filters. I mix diesel or Kero depending the time of the year and still wind up plugging up my primary with fat. In the winter HA I mix more diesel into my wvo depending on the temp. I run up to Jax every weekend and it will get real cold up there, at least for me. I will then just dump a load of diesel into the 300 and have no problem.

I usally buy my oil for spring summer,an fall, in the winter. When its below 30 degrees in daytime,I filter oil thru old levi jeans.Pants legs tied, wire hoop to hold pants open).
You will be surprised how much fat is in the oil.Pretty much after filtering this way my oil will flow in the teens.
