Because of the continual fighting in the Blending Forum I have placed the whole Blending Forum on moderation temporarily. This means that before any post goes live, in the Blending Forum, it will need approval first. Personal attacks are not acceptable. Also, if I see info that has already been posted before, I will delete those posts.

If someone is sending you personal attacks in PM's flag those PM's by clicking on the "Report this private message" icon at the bottom right of the PM.

I was a moderator on a forum some years ago so I know it can be a pain. I found the best way to deal with trouble makers was to reply to the thread myself, quoting the offensive or objectionable post. Placing this entire forum on moderation is IMHO too drastic a move, as it is the forum is small and discussions move slowly, this will only worsen that problem. It will also discourage new members and possibly lead to posts out of order. I have noticed out of order posts by one member in question whom I can only assume was on moderation at the time. Aside from that it punishes everyone, even those who have chosen to stay out of the politics or only post their opinion of it in the "Leave each other alone" thread. Personally I wouldn't use moderation at all, just delete the questionable material and put the poster on warning, if it continues then just ban them.

The only reasonable reason I can see for putting an entire forum on moderation is so that the members who chose to stay decide on their own to just put the troll(s) on their ignore list. Trouble with that is even a troll has pertinent info at times. It is truly sad to see this happen, it's a first in my many years of using internet forums. This forum needs new blood, new members with new ideas etc. It also needs regulars or old timers to drop the whole "didya try searching" routine. Either answer a new poster's question or don't, maybe even search for them, we are all here to help each other out after all aren't we? The next person chased away by that type of behavior or moderation might have become an invaluable member, sad day indeed.

I won't leave this forum just yet but you can bet I'll be searching for others where the members behave properly and the moderators exercise more disgression in their moderating.

I think that putting the entire section of the forum on moderation has a negative connontation to the many users that have had nothing to do with the latest problems but I am thankful to those concerned that they have taken some action to put an end to the actions of the troublemaker.
It would seem a heck of a lot easier to ban him and be done with it but the fact the problem is being dealt with is far more important than the specifics of how exactly that is being done.

I thank those concerned for their time and attention to the matter.

I know it's not fair to the civil members, but the moderation of this whole forum is only a temporary measure. When I have some more time I will remove the moderation and take care of offenders on an individual basis.

I will also look at the moderation queue several times a day to help keep the flow of these forums smooth.

Did you hear that? It's the sound of this forum grinding to a halt! We've had what 5-6 new posts in the past 4 days?

Thank you Shaun, didn't mean to be a critic, moderating is a pain in the arse sometimes and the pay ain't so good either.

Shaun's moderating is not a problem, he's just too busy with biodiesel stuff to be watching the rest of the forum.

John,

This is not an issue of the biodiesel side of the forum compared to the SVO side, it's all one forum. When I look at the forums, the first thing I do is click on "New since your last visit", and that pulls all posts from all forums. I don't read most of the content for obvious reasons. When I do that I'm just looking for obvious issues like spam. The problem stems from the fact that most of the infighting within these forums occurs on the SVO forums. For whatever reason the biodiesel forums don't generally have that problem.

As for lack of moderation. I've always had a mostly hands-off approach to moderation because of time constraints (running two businesses), and not wanting to be a baby sitter. It's too bad that some people are obsessed with needing someone to step in and control content. There are functions in these forums that allow you to put other members on ignore, and there are report post functions as well.

That said, I'm taking a more active role now, but don't expect me to hold your hand.

I use the Ignore Function liberally and frequently and therefore I was unaware of the problem till this subject was started.
Why isn't that enough? Why was there a need to do anything else?

Isn't it possible to put a troublesome member on 'global ignore' so that nobody sees their messages?

With the recent occurrence of hostilities on this forum I am reminded of past hostilities and wonder why the consistent perpetrator remains on this forum, while those who provide meaningful information are consistently banned?

bio_cowboy,

I haven't seen anyone here who posts useful information get banned, but I only joined recently. One mans "meaningful information," however, is another womans "consistently hostile perpetrator".

Much like the "Terrorist/Freedom Fighter" dichotomy, the binary hierarchy of subjective informational value juxtaposed against social impropriety is a false logical construction.

Personally, I believe that all moralizing dichotomies are false constructs of arithmetic and language, albeit useful tools for critical analysis, they are nonetheless illusory.

But that's me.

I'm curious why you posted, tho - weren't you banned from this and other forums while posting under the handles 'jhanananda' and 'Jeffrey S. Brooks'?

Aloha!
