Happy New Year,

I have a metal measuring stick that I use for my blend barrel. When I draw it out to check for blend level I get small tiny white chunks of who knows what. I'm using Firemediceric's filtering process. My back garage is below freezing. Maybe I should try & bring a small sample into my basemet & put it next to my furnace to see what happens.

I would like to know what it is. Fat? I know if I ran it in my van it would clog my pickup tube in my non-heated fuel tank.

Any ideas, suggestions?

David,
What are you blending with the oil and what is your blend ratio? What type oil are you using? Also did you do your filtering hot or cold?

Is the stick galvinized metal? I have problems with the galvized stuff & my metal van tank is flaking, but my dahl 100 pre-pump filter is catching it. I drain almost daily , so it will not clog filter element.

ohhhh yeah you will have major problems with galvinized things. It would behove you to remove all galvanized items.

I believe it is the zinc used in galvanizing that causes the problem. So anything made of or coated with zinc will react and create this waxy stuff. I had the standpipe of a hand pump that was zinc coated and it collected this stuff. Some say the filter head for a goldenrod filter may be questionable also, but I know there are many in use.

Me three. My Goldenrod gets coated in an off-white waxy goop as well.

dmcmmc,

I'm using Firemediceric's blend. I beleive I'm using transfat free soy oil. It's being used mostly to fry potatoes I think. My blend was supposed to be good until 45 degrees. 20% K-1.

I stopped running for now because my blend tank in my van needs to be pulled down & checked. It won't run on that tank. It's just sort of my excuse for not having to drive it on the salty roads here in Ohio.

I was filtering hot. I'm in the process of making another settling tank for my basement. I have quite a pile up of grease waiting. I just need to get off of my lazy a** & carry out the plan. What are you guys doing to make it work in the cold climates.

I do use the Golden Rod water remover.

I'd be looking for water contamination also. Suggest you start keeping sample jars and check them for the same.

Hi SB,

I will start to do that. I started a new filtering settling tank in my basement. I'm filtering one cubie at a time into a five gallon bucket through a pillow case. I takes days usually to just do one 4.5 gallon unit. There must be a better way?

Thanks!

Hey DavidK, to help extend your pillow case, pre filter with bigger micron. I stack another 5 gal pal on top of each other. I pour in grease & it goes thru a window srcreen, then a laundry bag from dollar store, then in second pale, I use the legs (cut off) from old blue jeans. I'll have to check, but I thought I could do approx 5 gals in 1-2 hours. Right now I know my dollar store laudry bag is getting slower. Also, I use chinese fry oil, & it's warmer down here. If your oil is full of crud & cold, may be a problem, without heat.

I add a gal of stale gas to the 4.5 gal first and then through the pillow case, much faster, even in the cold, but you don't want to do that in the basement, pew, happy veggin'
