Great engine, very reliable. I have a 13B-T in my truck and have been running blends for the past two years. My current blend of 20% VO, 10% jetB, 70% ULSD runs just fine in a FPHE heated, otherwise un-modified fuel system.

John, looks like you and I have too much time on our hands, we should be out working on one of our vehicles!
Is the 13B-T direct injection? I hope the deal comes through on the 1HD-T, if not I may go another route. Rusty |

All the Toyota turbo [-T] engines are direct injection.
Yeah, I've been out working in the shop all afternoon. --.- ..- . ... - .. --- -. / .- ..- - .... --- .-. .. - -.-- '89 Toyota 3.4L TDI + FPHE BD+ULSD+VO+JetB blends |

I am running rapseed oil/ULSD blend on my Citroen Xsara 2,0 HDi from 2003 (PSA engine type DW10). Have now been running 16.000 km in the blend. In summer time 47% SVO (down to 7 deg. C) and now 35% (down to -10 deg. C) - adjust blend to viscosity and temperature. Engine block is always heated before start - no other modifications. Apart from ULSD/SVO I ad 3% RUG, 0.1% turpentine and 0.16% acetone.
So fare no problems. Working to find out what the risk is of too high SVO fraction and too high viscosity. - Kim, Denmark. |

Kim, I think as you stated, viscosity is the key. From what I understand it is the spray through the injectors that causes the problems when too thick. I think you can tell by the smoke at start-up, if there isn't any smoke you should be ok. If you can blend in Denmark I shouldn't have any problems in Texas! I spent a summer in Sweden, Finland and Denmark playing tennis during college, beautiful but don't think I could last a winter there.

Will you have to swap out transmission for that engine?

Daniel Franke, the engine I am considering comes with a transmission, but it is the same transmission as the gas version used. Not sure if that is the same on all conversions or not. In my current vehicle, a 1994 Land Cruiser, I swapped in a GM 6.2 diesel. In that instance I did have to also swap in a GM transmission.
If you are interested in more information on Land Cruiser conversion go to ih8mud.com there is a diesel section in which there are quite a few conversions discussed, including mine. Rusty |
