Hi I made the mistake of getting my wife to pick up a sample 20L container of discard 'oil'. When she got it here its like soft lard, the container reads canola oil. Putting a stick into the gunk shows that the fatty substance is consistent from top to bottom.
Other threads in this forum lead me to think the donor lets the fats from chickens etc saturate the canola oil.
I guess the lesson here is to move on and find an alternative source and make sure I inspect the stuff before taking it. We usually pay a small fee to the suppliers of WVO here.
Its not worth suggesting to the donor to change his oil more regularly or alter the type - he does not listen to any advice!

Any comments?
Cheers,
Al.

you might cold filter the oil to get fats out and see whats left.I had a oil source that looked like applesauce till I filtered 40% out.Or I think it will make bio.Not sure on that, ask others.

It makes great summer biodiesel. 1/4 to 1/2 of my oil is actually hamburger grease, bacon fat, and sausage fat.

I've upped this to another thread about processing the fatty mix to clean it here:

I have made over 600 gallons of b/d out of wvo that looks exactly like your oil. I get it from a mexican restaurant that mixes both liquid veg oil and solid ver oil togather in my barels
it titrates around 2.6 to 3.5 watter content from 1200 to 2600 ppm using 6.5 koh as a base I have been running it in my ford diesel vans for 3 weeks runs great. I operate out of houston texas and it has been fairly cold several days below 45f all working well.I have to use barrel heaters to heat it to 140 f then filter to 100 microns then process it normaly. It is solid when I get it.
