Don't know where else to put this, so since it's about one "fuel" that blends with others I'm putting it here.

This is NOT to discuss the merits of hydrogen as a fuel. I only want to know if hydrogen can harm an engine? Will it burn too hot? Will the rapid combustion have any negative affects? Might the resulting moisture in the exhaust stream harm the system?

Anything else???

Thanks!

Dan

Google "hydrogen embrittlement "

There are hydrogen powered vehicles around. Some of these are electrically powered but there are some which burn hydrogen directly just like lpg powered cars.

John, I dont think hydrogen embrittlement is relevant here - it refers to metal which has been contaminated with hydrogen in the molten state.

Are you wishing to run 100% Hydrogen?

Or run Hydrogen as an additive?

I haven't seen anything indicating that the "HHO" kits do anything to harm your vehicles. Although, people often argue until they are blue in the face about whether they do anything good either.

I'd be more careful about running 100% hydrogen.

And, the "hydrogen embrittlement" can happen to pressurized tanks, and presumably fuel lines. I don't know about the engine cylinders though. There have to be some published test results from auto manufacturers. The problem is that Liquid Hydrogen is pretty difficult to handle, and compressed Hydrogen isn't that much better. Thus, few people are doing home conversions.

Somewhere I did read a good article about home hydrogen purification.

I'm looking at installing HHO. I took John's advice and looked up embrittlement. Looks like a serious concern for tanks and such, but not for the interior of an engine. ("Tanks" for the tip, John! Big Grin )

I had heard from a friend who has an HHO system that his engine runs smoother, and he claimed that the HHO caused carbon deposits (coking) to burn off. I'm very interested to see if it will do this, as it would resolve one of the big concerns with burning WVO.

Not necessarily. But hey, what do I care about what people want to believe. I'm not out to change anyone's belief system. People will always find reasons to do what they want to do. One can cherry pick facts to support almost any belief.

Personally I believe that H2 is a scam, just like believing that we can stop global warming.
If there is a buck to be scammed someone will be in there fleecing the rubes.

Here are some links to "Homepower Magazine" articles on Hydrogen Gas (production, storage, etc).
http://www.hydrogennow.org/whats_available/homepower.html

The website apparently has some good links to Autos (unfortunately also with a few dead links).
http://www.hydrogennow.org/Facts/Theautomobile.htm

Follow some of the links for interesting info.

Why contaminate the blending section with H2 scams? There is a 30 page discussion section on hydrogen stuff. Take it there.
