I recently picked up a gas hot water heater and am wondering, with modifications if I can use it for an appleseed processor?

My reactor utilizes a natural gas Water heater. Ive had no problems, but be aware that you are using an essentially open flame near Methanol vapors. My reactor is also fitted with a "Plumbers delight" Condenser, and is a "Closed system", where even the secondary tank vent is routed back into the circulation line via venturi (A vapor recirculation line). I have strict, and I mean strict like religious, operating procedures that I follow, which dictate that the heater is only ever on when heating the oil to temperature. After that, the gas to the heater is cut off completely, and I NEVER allow even the pilot to stay lit. SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY! With an electric you only need to worry about dry starts, but with a gas you also need to be concerned with the open flame element. Open flames and Methanol vapors do flash fried Humans make.
My reactor is also fitted with a valve on the vapor recirculation line that can vent to atmosphere when opened, and if I wont be making a batch for awhile, Ill run washwater then compressed air through my reactor tank to clear any latent fumes. Im very paranoid when it comes to high flammables, and especially Methanol. Ive seen first hand what it can do to things and people. NOT a pretty sight.
