is it possible to use my wash tank for drying and not drain the water form the wash cycle. I would have water in the bottom of the wash tank up to the top of the stand pipe. i would than mist and air dry the bio if I didn't disturb the water on the bottom of the tank the bio and water would not mix then I could drain the bio using the stand pipe. is this correct or am I going about this wrong. thanks.

Been working for me for the last 4 years--

Lower the wash water level an inch or so below the stand-pipe.

I then dribble the wet BD thru an electric frying pan with a few hole drilled in it and recirculate until dry.

Decant thru the stand-pipe above the water level.

We use a conical bottom drum that holds 300 Litres of WVO from start to finish takes +- 7 hours. All done in the one drum.
Processor is 2 HDPE 200 L drums welded together, a cone welded to the bottom and a which could be clamped on if needed. WVO is heated up midday, titrated and mixed for 2 1/2 hours left overnight. Next morning Glycerol is drained off, heater switched on, and mist washed 3 times, violently washed 2 more times, and final water drained off. Heat pumped up to about 70*c and spray dried against the tank wall with a fan blowing over the top. 1 1/2 ours all done, into storage, and a new batch started. All done in one tank, 300 Litres a day, no fuss no bother, passes all tests.

Might take a couple of days to take and post one--

Just take a Facet fuel pump and pump from near the bottom of the BD into an electric frying pan set on low.

Drill enough holes about 1/4" or so up from the bottom of the pan so that the BD drains a little faster than the pump works. BD is dry when the bottom of the pan no longer has bubbles and a flashlight beam is not dispersed when shined thru to the bottom of the bd in the drum.

I use a 55 gal HDPE drum with the top cut out so that a barbeque grate sits on the remaining edge and the pan sits on this. (this also allows me to replace the grate with a large plastic planter inverted over the drum to house my mist washing set-up thus keeping the overspray from escaping)

Use bulkhead connectors from ACE hardware for the drain / external stand-pipe / continuous flow mist overflow system.

What did you use to weld the HDPE drums together and the cone to the bottom?
Thanks,

We have dried BD in the wash tank by pulling the air bubbler up into the BD. It takes a while, but you can dry the fuel as it sits on the water.

Hi Dandy Don, we farm our drums out to a plastic fabricating company, they plastic weld them together using a type of heat gun specially designed to do this, they also cut and weld the conical bottom on. Being a chemical company, we have plenty of blue HDPE drums available, works like a charm. Jimk.
