Gas Hole (2010)
This documentary talks about the history of oil prices, the conspiracy to keep high fuel economy cars from becoming available and alternatives to gasoline & diesel, including a focus on biodiesel near the end of the film. Out of 5 stars I would give it a 3. Worth a watch.

Mike Berkland reviewed this video:
quote:
The first part of the film that deals with conspiracy theories of how big companies kill people who have ideas to reduce fuel consumption is quite ridiculous. They interview old people who once met a guy who claimed to know something rather than interviewing real experts. Also there is no data presented or even any hint at scientific validation of the claimes of 100 mpg cars from 50+ years ago. Also doesnt address the fact that patents expire thus meaning whatever company bought the patent would no longer have exclusive use of the technology.
Also neglects the fact that other very large companies and industries make their money by reducing fuel consumption. For example Toyota, a $250 Billion comany, has found success by marketing affordable fuel efficient vehicles. They employ some of the most brilliant scientists and engineers in the world who work to reduce fuel consumption of their cars. They dont do this because they are nice or want to save the environment. They do this because it provides value that their customers are willing to pay for which increases their profits. And surely a company like this or Ford or General Motors or even the Indian company Tata Motors has plenty of money to buy these patents.
This film trumps up fear with little fact to back it up. The problem of our reliance on a limited resource is very real but this film only serves to polarize the idea making it more difficult to work towards a solution. It is films like this that cause so many problems in our culture. Spreading misinformation based only on emotion.

I wish there was a way I could see this documentary, I know it's revealing, I was a car owner for decades, I should know. I eventually gave in to the high gas prices and put my car in a donate a car program, it turns out that I made the right decision.

Hello,

I am selling some algae that is used in biofuel production. It is a species known as Botryococcus braunii, and has a very high lipid content. They have a doubling time of 3 days, but are optimum for producing biofuel.

I have 4 agar slants of the species. Normally this species is sold for about a $100 USD, but I can sell it to you for $50 USD, which is the equivalent of 5370 Pakistani rupees
