Do a search with the "FIND" button above for the term "white flakes". There are a couple of threads dealing with the problem, which seems to be feedstock related.

I have seen the white flakes in the 3/27. I think it is a result of carbonation of the caustic that was used. In the past I had it appear when using hydrogenated feedstock but not in others. This had me thinking the feedstock may have been the cuilprit. But I looked at the 3/27 samples from both batches about a week later and noticed that both had the white flakes. The flakes just didn't show up in the non hydrogenated tests until some time after the others.
If you can accumulate enough of the white stuff, you can see if it is soluble in water. K or Na carbonate is soluble in water but not in methanol. |

Check the methanol you are using for the test. I kept a mason jar full of methanol aside just for 27/3 testing. For some reason moisture from opening closing or being in the light maybe affected it and my tests were all failing. I'd reprocess and wouldn't get any more glyc. and still fail. I changed methanol and the same batch passed as did the previous failed batches I had stored. Just a thought.
