I am swapping over my home made system from my 86 Golf to a 91 Jetta both 1.6L IDI. While swapping I thought I would make a few changes because the system takes so long to heat up. And I feel this is the time to make any changes to the system. In addition to the below advice, please let me know of anything else you guys can think of to upgrade this system! Your help is greatly appreciated!

I have ordered a 16 plate FPHE. I have a hose in hose fuel line system from a home made tank heated via a copper coil.

At this time I have no 'helper' pump to help get the WVO from the trunk tank to the IP, all of the work is on the IP as in the diesel system of this particular VW design. Would it be worth installing one?
If so what would you go with?
And where would you install it?
Any chance this could overload the IP?

I also have no purge setup, I found that when I got the system used in the Golf I had a problem with the WVO thickening up on the way back to the tank and thought the extra valves were a bit of overkill. Trying to keep the system as simple as possible. I have a WVO loop back to the band heated filter (not to filter it again but to re-heat it)and then to the solenoid. My logic is that if the solenoid is close enough to the IP I could switch over and run the vehicle on diesel for a few minutes clearing and filling the line with diesel so what is the point of introducing extra components for the purge to have to troubleshoot, all the way back to the WVO, etc??
Is this a bad assumption?
Any potential problems or advice?

Because of the above I disconnected the return to the WVO tank and am using return as a vent. Any problems with having a vent basically it is now a 5/16 hose barb in the top of the tank not connected to any hose.

As always thanks a million for all of the help!

Some people are successfully using the Master / Airtex E8016S low pressure univeral electric fuel pump (about 2-4 psi ) mounted near the tank as a WVO helper pump in the VW s and Mercedes .

I could not add a pump to my 03 as it would not allow my looped purge to return towards the veg tank. The pump was a oneway device.
