almost any cheap valve can be rigged to work for a while. Sensible people pay more for longevity and reliability; for others these factors are not important. Someone who lives in the southern regions where a valve failure is a minor inconvenience may think differently from someone who does not want things to fail in sub-zero winter conditions.

Another source . Industrial valves with teflon seals but shorter stem than the marine valve mentioned. However, the shorter stem may make mounting more difficult. Mcmaster.com probably offers something similar .-
