Going to build my own kit. I see there is alot of options for parts. Some look to be quite expensive. I'm sure I am like most others in trying to keep the cost of my conversion as low as possible. But I want to use good quailty equiptment & if that means spending a bit more then so be it. Looking for advice on specific parts:

1. switching valves- looking at Hydraforce or greasecar. Looks like they will be about $100.00. It there any other option that would be cheaper that is good quality?

2. heated fuel filter- Will a coolant wrapped filter suffice or should I be looking at Vormax or vegitherm type? If a coolant wrap will work can I use a furnace oil filter? I have a filter head for one already.

3. vegi tank - Am leaning to the same tank as Sunwizards but was wondering if any tank will work?

4. Coolant tank heater- Looking at the hotfox. Was wondering though how well Dana Linscotts homemade hot stick works.

5. FPHE- Looking at a 20 plate HE sold locally in my area & listed on another site that is getting good reviews. Should I be looking at a 26 plate instead? Temperatures in my area in the winter can go down to 20's regularly.

6.Fuel line- Hose in Hose type. Are they easy to make yourself & it is much cheaper them buying them already made?

7. Fuel pump- I have a 6.5TD so I need 5-7psi. I see the FASS pump would do the trick but it is really pricey. Is ther other options that will work?

Thanks for any advice.

waste of time and money and not relaible, not required with a FPHE, use HOH or TOH instead

Really. I though the HIH was the way to go. Also was unaware that it is not required when using a FPHE. Stupid question; what is TOH?

Hose on Hose, or Tube on Hose, bundled with zip ties and wrapped with foam water pipe insulation will work just fine. The Hotstick is a good design, no need to spend more. A coolant wrapped filter is all that's needed as well. Consider manual three way valves if you want to save more. They can be actuated with a choke cable kit or bring the shaft through the floor of the cab.

I get local custom made tanks for less than the price of a northern tool tank. These already have fuel level guages built in as well as coolant heating coils, baffles, sight guages(to see the level when filling). Hot Foxes and Tank purchases are not the way to go you get less quality and they do not fit as well plus the cost is more.

You should see the inside of the tank before it is welded up it is truely a work of art. Usually about $10 a gallon. Find a local welder, support your local community and get a better product might require a little thought on your part, and a tape measure but...you get the idea.

As far as valves go get one of these Valve on ebay you are probably thinking what is that going to do. That brings me to fuel pumps. Get two one for the diesel and one for the veggie. But you already have one for the diesel it is the factory one. Now you just need a veggie one. Wire and plumb them so that when you flip the switch the diesel turns off and the veggie turns on. But that means that the veggie would get flushed back to the diesel tank so you add one of these valve to keep it going back to the veg tank until flushed.

No pressure just think about it you will not be the first one to do this.

High quality low cost.

1. No problems with Hydraforce.
Shop around I found a vendor down the street from my house that sells them for $60 minus fittings. My blog should show the vendor let me know if it doesn't.
I got the fittings from Advanced Hydraulic Supply in Portland Oregon. Add $10 per valve for fittings

2.Look around for semi truck scrap yards you might be able to score a $500 coolant heated filter for $40. I got the Davco 382 new filter elements can be had for $10 and they are huge.

3. Custom is the way to go. Learn to Tig or make friends

4. Custom Tank

5. Davco is the FPHE

6. Hose in Hose isn't that costly with PEX Tubing, SwageLock Brass compression fittings, and fittings from AHS.

7. 5-7 PSI sounds pretty week. But those can be had at Schucks for $40.

I'm running a 2 tank system with the hot fox and vegtherm. I've run this with no problems in Ohio the past 2 winters when i visited my family in Nov and Dec. I used to run without the vegtherm and hotfox in an isuzu Diesel and when you went below 35 you were back on Diesel, no question and that's with a coolant heater attached to the Vegi filter.
