A company called Biodiesel Solutions run by Rudy Weidemann stole some plans for how to build a processor out of plastic tanks a few years ago from Biodiesel Gear (http://www.biodieselgear.com) and sold something called a Fuelmeister.

He marketed the hell out of them and quickly started selling them like crazy to the unsuspecting public.

For more information on Fuelmeister style processors, I'd recommend reading this thread:
http://www.biodieselnow.com/forums/thread/38750.aspx

And now for a listing of the companies I'm aware of hawking these things. A big note to everyone that's looking for something like this. Buyer Beware!!!

- This guy started at Fuelmeister, got sick of Rudy & left to make & sell his own systems.

EZ Biodiesel

Highland Biodiesel

Florida Biodiesel

By the way, this is what happens when it gets REALLY warm in the room of processors like these:

The only thing I can think is that it's stupidly simple to make one of these things & hawk it on the net. They're typically extremely marked up to make a killing.

Most of the accessories they sell are also extremely marked up beyond belief too.

Hmmm, let's look at some Fuelmeister owner's quotes (there have been positive ones, too, but the feedback is usually overwhelmingly negative when the user knows anything about quality control). Most of these quotes came from the Biodieselnow thread that Graydon linked above:

Some quotes and testimonials from actual Fuelmeister users
:

terryret wrote:

quote:
Do Not Buy a Fuelmister I could make 4 of them for the price of one. Very poor design and can't make good Biodiesel with it as it stands. I know what Im talking about I bought one . Terry

Baytent writes:

quote:
Do not buy the Fuel Meister for any reason, I bought one about six months back and have had nothing but regrets (I should have done more homework.) That being said, does anyone know how I can salvage some vestige of hope using (or canabalizing) my equipment? I need to figure out "bubble washing" and "drying" the fuel. Any help with these problems would be a huge relief.

another experienced homebrewer who's involved in the commercial biodiesel distribution industry (meaning he is very informed about quality) but also makes his own fuel, wrote me about an encounter with a Fuelmeister dealer this fall:

quote:

I was at the ***** festival last weekend. What
booth is next to me? The Fuel Meister guy. You would have gotten a kick
out of it. The conversation lasted about 3 minutes. The guy was so badly
informed I couldn't take it anymore.

One of the highlights was that he told me that the glycerin only has
tablespoons of methanol in it with an 80 gallon batch. When I informed him
it was more like gallons, he said well then all he had to do was cut back on
the amount of methanol. When I asked him if he thought that might affect
the quality of the fuel he challenged me with, "have you ever made fuel?"
At which point, I simply said, "enough to know what a piece of crap that
thing is."

I thought he would get pissed but his response was that they have just come
out with a better one!

Brentsbg, when he first bought a Fuelmeister, wrote:

quote:
At $3,000 I expected much
much more. I had a leaky valve which was not easy to fix, the kit is
not made to be worked on.

I have never been able to prime it, and yes the cheesy plastic pump's handle broke right off,

"Yea those have been a problem in the past, we sell a new, different kind now.....Its been
more than 30 days sorry".

There are a few other small things that are wrong with the Fuelmeister that just make producing biodiesel an
inconvinience. I suppose if the Fuelmeister would cost less then maybe
there wouldnt be so much to complain about, but in reality they cheaped
out where ever possible.

Heck the Fuelmeister II eliminated the second
tank, and it sounds like a lot of fooling around with 3 different lids.

Garyd, a Fuelmeister II owner, writes:

quote:

Well, this is what I did since you came over, washed washed washed
washed washed washed and today I'm still washing, it has taken me 4
days to make 80 gallons of biodiesel, actually with the Fuelmeister I
would'nt even call it biodiesel.

Today I was looking at 30 gallons that I'm giving to Kevin, (duramax's
are always good test subjects)and I thought that I should dry it more
just cause I had a feeling, this time I was going to put it into an
open lid container and place that $1500 band heater around it and let
it cook all day.

Well I got out my transfer pump that came with the kit
(northern tool model #36055) it also came with a water seperator
filter, I got everything hooked up and fliped the switch, and guess
what, I didn't even get 1 gallon out and the filter was pluged, so I
changed the filter cause they are gracious to give you 2 with the kit,
and I fliped the switch, same thing, pluged filter, the third time I
got out my trusty hose and did it the old fashion way, as it got down
to about 2 gallons I noticed that the bottom was nothing but thick
grease, and I thought this was a good batch!.

I don't know what went wrong, I did everything per fuelmeisters instructions.

They say that you can do 80 gallons in a day, I say B.S.
Graydon, I'll give this system to you if you want to play with it but I
would ask that you sell me a 250 gallon BioPro at cost when it comes
out.

If anyone is in the market and is looking at FuelMeister, don't waste
your money, I did it for you, they suck.
Gary

But the "Pelly A" entry model reactor is only $55,000!
Plus taxes, shipping and setup expenses

You could hardly expect stainless for this give-away price

NOTICE: Appleseed Reactors and open top reactors stirred with a drill have both been shown to be dangerous methods of making biodiesel and should be avoided.

Hello brentsbg

For a start, just put what you are selling in your signature like all the other retailers who post to this forum do.

By the way, I'm still willing to work with Bob to test any fuel made from Poly based processors.

Convince me that they make good fuel and I may just be a changed man. I've yet to see the proof though.

Here's what happens when you use a fuelmeister EXACTLY as they specify:

Here's what it SHOULD look like:

These came from The Trouts analysis of fuel that he presented in a presentation.

Here's the link to it:
