I believe you can get them at Princess Auto, they are in the hydraulic section.

My local steel supply stocks weld-in bungs and related fittings, but I use less expensive steel pipe couplings cut in half. Graingers and McMaster-Carr sell them, too. Where are you located?

Cheers,

Hi,
We have a piping and plumbing supply house called Ferguson (sp) or Winnelson
I'm sure most places like this have those parts.

If you are going to cut couplings in half you need forged couplings, not the cheap cast ones.

I think they are also called weld-o-lets.
or thread elects.
Different regions call things different names.
Funny, we knew exactly what you meant.

At a plumbing supply house they will know them as weld couplings or half couplings.

Fabricator, you can weld the cast couplers cut in half, you just need to remove as much of the galvanized coating as possible in the weld area. It can create a bunch of nasty gas and screws the weld up a bit (there is a spider web looking stuff left behind if you didn't clean it enough)

Its not the same as the castings you see in things like engine blocks so it can weld up pretty good with a MIG and straight CO2 (flux core can do it too) if you take your time and remove most of the galanized coating.
