So, up to now, I have been pretty successful at using the cheapest HF cast iron barrel pumps to transfer methanol, and wvo. Unfortunately, I now have two pumps that are approximately 3 years old and the seals failed. Methanol comes dribbling out at an alarming rate from around the pump shaft.

Anybody have a source for pump seals. I haven't called the store yet, but both websites (the mail order/online/catalog HF, and the website for the physical stores) make no mention of a seal for those pumps. The pumps are only $18, but it's just morally wrong to throw the pump out because of a damaged two dollar seal.

It's not just an o-ring, or I'd be back in business already.

Viton, or other multi-chemically resistant material would be preferable, but the cheapo factory seal lasted three years, so I'll take anything.

Finest regards,

troy

I guarantee you won't get parts from HF, the price makes them throw away pumps, good luck.

Troy;
While I am no longer a fan of Northern Tool I did get a hand pump from them. It took two tries to get one that worked perfectly and it has pumped many drums of methanol and is still in service as my main methanol pump so far. Price is right too.
Word to the wise if you can inspect it before leaving the store is to check to see if the locking nut on the pump shaft screws on correctly and is not cross threaded.My first one was and it is now a parts pump, but I've not had to replace anything yet.

Measure the shaft and seal seat and go to an industrial bearing supply house and see if they have something that will fit, its amazing the solutions some of these places can come up with in my experience.
Good luck!

Troy,

Pull the seal out and get the makers name and serial number (usually on the front face of the seal). Then call Phoenix Bearing Belt and Chain at: 602 252 6541

If they can't get it then it isn't available in the US

I use those pumps too, I found that occasionally running some bio or clean oil through them keeps them happy Big Grin

Thanks for the advice. I have a back up pump, so this is not an emergency, and will post results once I run all the leads down.

Finest regards,
