Yeah, around here it is, the price varies a lot, the last time I brought scrap in about three months ago it was around $.33 a pound, it changes by the day.

fabricator,

hey, thanks for the ballpark cost/lb. Sounds alot cheaper than when we buy our steel for our bumpers and plates. I guess you fabricators know where to go Smile

I didnt get out to the metal shop today as i went to home depot to buy some pressure treated wood for my shed base. Looks like my processor is a wee bit too tall for it. so i'll have to get creative. i may have to build a "tub" base to add some floor space to the shed. in the meantime, here's whats going on in my backyard:

a little cleaning out required:

location. the white stuff is laundry detergent:

ok, not much progress but I was doing alot of multitasking in and around the house. i went to Home Despot this morning, made breakfast burritos (wife loves my bb's so it make me happy), got coffee, stained the fence, and almost finished the base. I'm using pressure treated lumber as the base. i plan to screw on the ply as the floor with a ring of 2x4s to lift up the height of the shed, if necessary.

i will have to remove the wheels off the processor to allow the processor to fit inside the shed. It'll be sad b/c i wanted this to be mobile. but it'd be better if i made only a few barrels mobile and bring them to the processor which will be sheltered from the elements.

like i said, multitasking! staining fence, cleaning out trash, etc. as you can see, there's plenty of room for a line of barrels:

this will be the base. it's upside down now and missing 3 more supports:

hopefully by tomorrow i'll have the base completed mounted to the shed. then i'll need to wheel the processor over to the backyard, test it, and then when everything is leak free, move it into the shed and remove the wheels.

Ok, all squared away. Late last night, I moved the processor into my backyard because I have these annoying f'g old neighbors who always find something to b##ch about me. Today I moved the processor into the shed. I had to remove the wheels because I didn't have enough clearance with the roof. I definitely will have some problems draining the glyercol because the total height is not as tall as a carboy. Looks like I'll be cycling in two or three cans. Anyways, here's some pics:

No clearance:

Though I need to set up the WVO upflow barrels near the fence, I need to leak test the processor system and mark up the site tubes. After that, I'd like to wire up a panel/control box as well as the PID I purchased.

i have not updated that picture in quite some time. the one thing that has changed is the location of the site tube. the site tube is now located off a short tube at the lower part of the reactor. look at the real pics. other than that, the processor has been built according to the pic you posted/copied. just look at all my recent pics. that'll give you a better idea of my build

as I understand it, the venturi can produce pressure that is lower than atmospheric pressure so it can be used as a pump of sorts. the venturi is used to regulate this in several operations. the best way i learned what it does and where it is used is to read GL's website. print out his diagram and print out the table where it shows you which valves to leave open and close. then you can figure out step by step how atmosphere pressure is used (or not) in the GL process

the methoxide line (HV5) is attached to a flap-style check valve. meaning, the flap only opens 1 way so when the methoxide is not flowing, then the oil cannot go upwards. in the pic below, look at the red dotted line. that is the path to the methoxide line to the check valve.

what i did recently is add an in-line fitting so that i can plug/unplug the methoxide line. of course when i mix, i will need to close off the valve.

Thanks for the comments. had a good re-read etc, and understand it now. Cheers.

To drain the glycerol use a pan for car oil changes, they are more flat than tall and come with a spout so you can then pour it out into a pail/drum or something.
