Well I got tired of wasting the heat energy from my gas fired pump and built a heat exchanger that mounts on the pump and the exhaust from the engine

In the center of the exchanger the hot exhuast gases flow in a pipe (without actually contacting the oil) while oil is being pumped through the exchanger surrounding it.

Should do some testing tomarrow, I cant wait!

Any thoughts/improvements?

How much gasoline does a batch take?

Not sure Raften, Ill fire it up tomarrow, but a tank usually lasts for several hours and it holds less than a gallon.

What I really want to do is put the heat exchanger on my 3" diesel pump and run it on homemade bio but I need to upgrade my hardlines first (its a big pump and my curret lines/hoses can't take the pressure and volume Big Grin)

Oh and under constant load it may be less run time...

We will see tomarrow

I like your idea, looks like 2 inch pipe. Did you weld any heat transfer fins on the oil contact side of the exhaust pipe?

The first test is now done, when sealed up it raised 700+ gallons of wvo 6degF per hour. I think that is pretty darn good for free Smile

Raften, under full load it seems to consume about a gallon of gas every 3+ hours, the pipe is 3" because I want to eventually adapt it to my 3" diesel pump

tooo much time on your hands, Big Grin What a great idea! Now you have to build a small bioler, open type no pressure, heat it with byproduct and transfer the heat to the wvo via flat plate heat exchanger!

Hi
Nice looking exchanger. Isthis like aplumbers delight in reverse, or isthere more to the inside other than steel replacing copper?

Yup, thats about how it works,
I am playing with adding steel wool to the pipe for the exhaust stream and am making a couple other changes. The next unit should work much better (and this one I think does a pretty good job as is)
