Has anyone had any experience trying to make the venturi as designed by Graham? I bought 3/4 in copper tubing and I've pounded it into shape I thought I was almost finished when I realized that my tube had split. Can I fix this or do I need to start over. and what did I do wrong, so that if I start over I don't do it again?

Also how is my shape? do I need to go further or is this far enough?

thanks for the help,

Jason

When you solder your suction tube in try and fill the split with solder... Use plenty of flux!

If you look further down the page on Graham's site you will see how to make one out of soldered fittings, it is much easier but not as pretty. as you can see from the attachment. Here mine is attached to the 'spray bar' that goes into the processor.

Well I'm going to give soldering a try, If that fails I'll try the other design on GL's site. Do you think My shape and size are right or should I keep going?

Which design did you build? Ant's or the other one?

thanks for the replies

Hi Jason

I built the one that Dick did, the very bottom one on Graham's site. If you click the bottom link it is explained better. I know Dick and he was getting about 6 feet of water, although he has recently built one that pulls 9 feet. They work great I get 7 feet from mine which is plenty - highly recommendable.

You could pm jamesrl and ask him about the right sizing of venturi for your specific pump. I'm sure he would make one for you if you're so inclined.

I don't think it's feasible to simply hammer out a complete venturi from just a single length of pipe with no cuts. Jamesrl will supply a pattern to make the individual pieces, and then you silver braise them together. Yes it is a bit fiddly but you learn a lot as you go.

Livewire,

Well if I can't get the formed one to work then I'll go with the design you suggest. It doesn't look to hard to put together. I'm giving it one more go as I already have the materials. I think maybe I was rushing it a bit to much.

Paulus,

I initially pm'd jamesrl, but he hasn't responded and I'm starting to think that I can come up with a solutions without his help. He does do nice work though from the pictures I have seen.

It all depends on how my second attempt works out. I'll post pictures when I'm done.

thanks again for the help,

Jason

I designed and milled one from bar stock. Wasn't easy to be sure, but it's tough as the Rock of Gibraltar.

sounds cool, could you post some pics? I've failed miserably. I'm looking at a couple of options and still trying to get ahold of jamesrl
