I have a 100microns (or so) barrel filter that I use to strain out junk out of WVO into my settling barrel. Well, I forgot and left it full of junk outside for a few days and it bacame very sticky. I tried soap and water and got the big stuff off of it, but I think most of the fine pores have been clogged with the sticky wax like substance. I even tried Amonia, but it wont cut through it.

Is there a way to clean it?! Blow dryer and paper towel ? maybe i should try melting it? any other ideas welcome - hate to lose it.

Thanks,
james

If its made from plastic or steel I would try mixing your caustic of choice with water to clean it, or glycerin, or even methoxide although it would be the more toxic/dangerous route to go...

Heat may loosen it up, but be extremely careful because that heat source will melt a hole thru it in a heartbeat.

If worse comes to worse, I have them in 100, 200, 400 and 600 micron and the strainer socks in 200 micron also.

Household or "cloudy" ammonia may move it, as may the solvents acetone, ethanol, toluene and/or methanol. Ask me how I know.

Demethed glycerine by-product cut with 25% water. Place on a flat surface and pour glyc over the dirty areas and then use an old toothbrush in a circular motion. Rinse with warm water.
