Depends Murphy , are you stuffing fat cats into the machine? O heck of course you are, can't get much bio from a skinny cat. But you can't beat the way the engine will purr and take corners as fast as you want cause if it flips, it goes all the way over.

Dude, you are so wrong. What difference would it make if you stuff 50 fat cats or 100 skinney ones? Without accounting for fur losses, teeth, bones, etc etc, there shouldnt be much difference in volume return. IE: its the biopro 380. So, assuming each cat takes up 2 Liters of space, you should get 190 cats in there. Would it produce anymore or less fuel if it was 1520 Hamsters? (assuming 4 per liter) Anyone got data on CFPP for a hamster or cat? I'm thinking the mixing blade motor in the BioProXX may need a power boost to handle the increased viscosity during pre-mixing. www.MurphysMachines.Com The best Do-it-Yourself Construction Plans on the Internet! Yeah, I was bored. And it makes a HUGE differance, I mean I know it's a BIOPRO but animal fat is animal fat. Besides Hamsters while having a decent fat content have the following issues:
1. Causes mysterious "squeeking rumbling noise" from the engine. 2 Your wheels may go "round and round" but the MPG is terriable, seems like you never get anywhere. 3. That ain't a "french fry" ya smell going down the road. Besides the additional capicity and a higher output heater, what other enhancements on this model over the 190? Hopefully it has many more goodies over the 190 to justify the 5k difference.

The majority of the extra cost is in the stainless and the stand. Yep. Stainless ain't cheap these days.
It does have the added ability though to do a 50, 75, or a 100 gallon batch vs. just one size (50) that the BioPro does. It also has a cool new feature on it where you can hook up a pressurized water line directly to it instead of having to let it draw it's water from a barrel. Those are the main differences though. There's also a bigger impeller on the main stirrer and a bigger impeller in the methoxide tank. The methanol tank also has a nice mesh screen on it in case you want to use it do to the 80/20 with. It also stands higher off the ground than the 190 (you can stick a bucket underneath the spout on the 380). Those are the major items though. -Graydon

I just put together another photo gallery of the 380. It has some rendered images of what the production machine will look like. It's a little different than the prototype.
Recessed site glasses, pumps up front out of the way of the stairs, nice sturdy stand, looks a little cleaner than the prototype. Here's the link to it: http://www.utahbiodieselsupply.com/biopro/biopro380/biopro380processor/ -Graydon

Graydon,
Thanks for you quick responses. I have been educating myself on Acid / Base process. Seems to not be a current link to the amended process. Maybe someone can provide a link. In reading, I see that the Acid portion of this process makes water ( H20 ) if my chemistry is correct. On each of the BioPro products ( 190 & 380 ), how does the unit dewater wet fuel? I am speaking in reference to the begin process and directly after the acid phase. I have read over your site and unless I missed it, I don't see it spoken about. Al www.goscoot.com |

You bring up a good point.
The owners manual has some instructions for dewatering the oil before the processing begins, but because there's nothing built into the machine to dewater once the processing has begun and because there is some water that's produced, that's why the machine has an upper limit on how high of an FFA content of oil it can handle. Pretty much about a 24 titration using KOH is it's top out point. They're considering adding de-watering in the future during the esterification phase, but it would add to the cost of the machine and would drive the cost up more. They're looking at ways to be able to deal with it though, but nothing ready for market yet. As for de-watering BEFORE processing, you basically throw 60 gallons of "wet" oil into the unit and kick on the heat for 24 hours, come back & drain 10 gallons off and begin processing. The heat helps the water to settle out and then gives you dry oil. Occasionally I'll do 12 hours of heated stirring and then another 12 hours of just the heat on. I do it all w/ the lid off allowing the water to both fall to the bottom and evaporate out as well. -Graydon
