Neat idea. If you could use a barrel or 2 in there, you could turn it into a solar collector to warm the oil in the winter to collect it easier, the 5 gallon buckets are easy to use too.... Just replace the roof with a couple of thermo pane windows and line the inside with cheap metal and some black paint.

I have one designed for this purpose. The bottom is a 7-1/2 inch deep tray for spill containment as well. The roof is hinged and latched for deposit / removal. None of my oil sources want one. Even those who were using drums prefer just leaving the pails out for me, as it is less likely to cause a spill, and less work for them.
I have also built a grid for my trailer to transport the pails. Using straps to secure the pails to the trailer's sides deformed them, causing leaks and spills. The grid holds the pails in place, without the leaks and spills. |
