K-chemicals sells it for $9.58 per gallon in east Tennessee (Rutledge)1-865-767-2342 this is what I would think a chemical dealer should be pricing it at or there abouts. I'm sure he will ship it but the shipping and $9.58 will probably exceed the $21.98 at ace. If you research the chemical dealers that the google phrase "chemical supply roscoe, il" brought up when I googled. I would bet that one of there price will be competitive and you may find a better supplyer for your methanol if you pay too much with your current supplyer. K-chemicals sells me the methanol right now for $105.00 a 55 gallon drum when diesel was over $4.00 a gallon the methanol was just about $200.00 per barrel if my memory serves me correct.

I'll tell you one thing though, a full drum of 98% is extremely heavy, it really made my F250 squat it has to be 800 lbs or more, since I got it I have maybe used 5-10 gallons, the sticker on the drum says it originally came from Brenntag.

FABRICATOR,

Do you have time for some esterification questions?
You seem to have been getting great results based on some of your other posts.

Brent,

Hit the yellow pages & see if you have a Brenntag Pacific in your area.
Also, check to see if there's a Univar near you as well.
Those two places sell it in bulk & you can usually get a pretty good price.

Also, look under Industrial Cleaners in the phone book too.
Sulfuric is apparently one of the most common cleaners in the world (so I'm told) so I'd imagine you'll probably be able to find a chemical distributor nearby that might be able to sell you some at a good price.

If that doesn't work, Norm could probably do a bulk rate on some (Nebraska BioPro) but I bet the shipping wouldn't be pretty because it's such a hazardous hazmat item.

Brenntag here in Utah always has great prices on chemicals though & are definitely worth a shot.

Hope that helps.

Yes thank you Graydon, very helpful. It is apparently very popular for cleaning. I found some at a small hardware store in my area. But boy did I make alot of phone calls for it. I thought I was almost going to quit! I got a real good price on it, $24.00 a gallon.

Norm did email me, and his prices are great! So if anyone is interested in ordering from him even with shipping the price was good.

How about where to get it at a decent price? Any one?

How about almost free, if you will work for nothing and pay for a bit of electricity.

Get dead car batteries and charge them up.
Empty the acid out and refill the battery again and charge again.
Put the acid in a heatproof glass container and heat on a low setting until you get to the concentration you want.
I got 5 liters of 60% acid and 500 ml of 90% acid from 3 dead batteries.

There are a few more details which I will post if you are interested
