Anyone have any ideas?

I had been driving smmothly for about 200 miles on veg, switched over to diesel and the car stalled out about five minutes later. Would not restart. Let the car sit overnight, came back the next day, disconnected the veg system to rule out any problems there, but still wouldn't start. Pulled the fuel lines off the ip and they seemed to be completely filled with diesel.

So I'm thinking what?

Air leak somewhere, return lines seem pretty tight, minor leakage. The valve cover gasket leaks pretty bad, but i didn't think this would have any affect other than losing oil.

No compression? There is some serious blowby but she still goes (or at least went).

Change the fuel filter or stick a hose directly from the ip to a gas can?

Any help would be appreciated greatly as I am away from home and would like to make it back.

cheers all, jt

Change the fuel filter, prime the new filter with fuel , maybe crack an injector fitting to see if anything is getting to the cyls & try a shot of starting ether. make sure your glow plugs are getting hot. There are two different problems here. The stalling and no start when hot which sounds like no fuel to the injectors. And the second which might be the same as the first or no heat from the glow plugs. Bad compression will make it a bear to start. Tow starting if it is a manual is a worst case option. Check for power at the fuel shutoff solenoid when the Ign is on. Good luck

Thanks for the advice. I tried bypassing the fuel filter by sticking the fuel line in a jug of diesel and she started right up. I had thought it wouldn't be the filter since it was new, but who knows, chunk of something from the tank maybe, Ah the joys of old rusted vehicles.. jt
