Ive just purchased a volvo diesel (i know it has a low rating). Im just about to start running biodiesel and any advice and input would be welcome!

welcome aboard.
It should just be a case of pouring the bio in the tank and running as normal. Nothing to change. You can treat bio just as normal diesel. It is when running on straight veggie oil that all the complications begin.

I am looking to buy an 84 Volvo 740 turbo d for my first biodiesel auto!!.

I have found verry little postings on this vehicle. . .unlike any other vehicle I have tried to look up. I was checking in to see if you had any luck withthe conversion or if you could give me any more specifice. I am mainly interested about the rubber and plastics of the engine.

It's a 6 cyl. version of the standard VW/Audi diesel motor better known in cars in the 4 and 5 cylinder forms, but VW built the 6s for a large delivery truck they sell over there, and for Volvo. ALMOST every single part is the same as what is used in VW 4s of the same era, so any information on rubber parts, etc. should apply to the Volvo motors as well. Note that there are the same big differences between the non-turbo and turbo motors as with the VWs. too -- oil cooled pistons, stronger rods, etc. on the turbo models.

www.brickboard.com is an amazing place for volvo people. I've fixed numerous problems on my gasser volvos: '67, '78, & '87, all by asking questions and getting good replies. The archives are excellent and very informative as well. There is a guy from Texas named Robert Ludwig or Ludwick- look up his posts on diesel volvos. You'll want to search the forums under 200 series and 700 series in the RWD forum.

I just purchased an 1983 760 GLE TD. I have had experience with these vehicles over in Enlgand when I was stationed there and they work very well. Some electircal gremlins, but with a diesel that isn't a big problem. I don't know of any body running bio in them over there though.

I am looking at a 1983 Volvo 760 GLE turbo diesel with manual transmission. What is your experience with bio? And do you have manual or auto?

I am also curious to know if the 760 also has VW/Audi engine -- easier to get parts, perhaps?
