To answer my own queston...

Yes, it is possible. It's being done right now. I found a guy in florida, A.J. @ Export International, who imports used isuzu diesel engines from japan. I purchased a 4JG2 for just under 3K and had it shipped to AZ for $300. It came out of an Isuzu Wizard (Rodeo in the States)so it matches the tranny and mounts perfectly. There ya go.Let me know if anyone wants his number. I'll post more info when the conversion is complete.

Interesting... another Isuzu conversion in the works. I'd like to know how you get on. I am currently swapping a 4JB1-TC into a 1988 Trooper. Check the progress here: Diesel Troop site

I also spoke w/ AJ before I bought my engine, but decided to go with another outfit (also in FL). For those interested, his prices were quite a bit lower than AJ's regarding the engine I bought and another I inquired about. No info on the 4JG2.

I'm curious to see whether it does in fact bolt to the gas transmission. You can see photos on my site detailing the differences between the two transmissions (gas Trooper vs. diesel 4JB1-TC transmission). I was under the impression that the engine you've bought shares a bellhousing with the diesel I have, and the transmission in your Rodeo is the same as the one that came out of my Trooper (stock gas unit). If it does work, this would be excellent news for the Isuzu community.

I've also got a thread, linked in the blog site, on 4x4wire. If you haven't already, have a look around the Isuzu diesel forum there: The Wire
Tons of info on these trucks and a great source of information.

Keep us posted, and let me know if I can be of any help.

Hi there,

I commute about 120 miles daily and raise in gas price made a big hole in my pocket. So I am planning to convert my Isuzu Rodeo (99 model) from Gas to Diesel.

Any help with respect to source of used Isuzu diesel engine as well as technical tips will be highly appreciated.

It will be highly appreciated if you can provide contact details of "AJ's" in FL or any other place where I can get an economic used diesel engine.

Regards
Esvee

Have a look around my site (above post) to get an idea as to how involved one of these conversions can be. Feel free to email me through this site, through a response to a post on my blog site, or through 4x4wire which is linked from the blog if you'd like to talk further. I can also provide contact information for my engine supplier if you so desire.

Will an isuzu diesel from a chevette go into an amigo. I have both the engine and can get a decent amigo for $300. I know it wouldn't have any power but it would be great for my delivery drivers at the pizza shop. FWD for winter and no power so they couldn't get crazy.
