Thought I was (almost) done with my 1982 chevy luv SVO conversion, but I seem to have run into a snag...

My system is set up with the purge hooked to one 3-port switch and the fuel selection hooked to another so that I can fill my veggie lines with diesel when I'm purging for colder weather.

Did a sucessful test-drive on veggie oil (hooray!), came back and tried to time my purge time and discovered that the injection pump isn't returning fuel to the diesel tank at all, no matter what my switch is on... I then realized that the injection pump seems to have its own little fuel loop and doesn't return fuel anywhere but to itself... obviously this isn't ideal for cold weather... means veggie oil will possibly sit in the pump, and that it won't be re-routed through the heat exchanger before it's fed back to the engine. There seems to be three lines coming off that same bolt on the injection pump, and I was wondering if there was a way to control which way the return is being sent, as there is certainly a line going back to the diesel tank that isn't currently in use. Perhaps if we plug the loop that is currently in use? This loop is all metal line, and wouldn't be fun to tee into...

I am a bit stuck and reluctant to just start messing with things at random. Would really appreciate any insight anyone can give, particularly if anyone has done a conversion on this engine and how they set up the fuel return.

Thanks!

I'd ask the people on these sites as this Isuzu section is rather slow-moving:

I've done conversions on both an '86p'up and '86 trooper. Both had the 2.2 liter Diesel so both were basically the same. I put a selnoid on the return line from the IP to the Diesel tank so I could decide where the "return" went. If I turn the return on, the fuel goes to SVO tank,if I leave the switch off the return goes to the Diesel tank. I have my switches set so that if I blow a fuse everything returns to the original Diesel setup.
Email me if I can help at: dyoungen@lycos.com
