Hey Murphy, The heater is working very well for heating my shop. I still need to tweak the exhaust a little and need to main stream the ignition system but it is working really well for as easy as it was to build. Thanks for the excellent plans.

Well,

Sitting here trying to type this post question I think I may have answered my own question, but here goes:

Fab - made an old type boiler with modern controls. i.e. a big tank of water as a sleeve around the burner.

What if, one were to use a coil around the burner? The water would heat more quickly - but the flow rate would have to be higher... and then a secondary tank to hold the water.... hhuummm.....

Fab U got any pics of the heat exchanger?

That is the exact reason I went with the sleeve type tank, it is far less susceptable to an over heat scenario, a coil around the burner would require much more pecise control of the burner to make absolutely certain you DO NOT make steam (TO BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS) even if it means a little less efficiency, as far as the heat exchanger is concerned picture a ladder with about ten rungs, the rails of the ladder are two inch square tube, the rungs are one inch black iron pipe, the rails are drilled and the rungs are welded to the rails, in diagonaly opposite 2x2 ends of the rails there is a one inch half coupling for connection to the hot water supply and return, I am a firm beleiver in the KISS principal, this system will take cold WVO to 130 degrees in about 30 to 45 minutes.

Hey fabricator,
When you sold your processor, did you keep the boiler or did you sell that too?

Thanks for the reply.

Where does the ladder go? into the wvo tank? Sorry I can't seem to picture it.

Does it look like this?

Nope, like a ladder, a rail on each side and rungs going straight across between the rails.

What the hell are you jibbering about? What scrap heap? If you dont like it dont build it simple, what legal regulation are you talking about please cite it with any pertinent case law please, anecdotes are worse than worthless.

You're doing a fine job of trashing this thread, VeggieMan - congratulations. Roll Eyes You should start your own thread to address your concerns. Smile

Please cite any case law pertaining to plans bought for the purpose of "Do it yourself" there is no productg here, only plans, in order for any product liability to come into play there has to be a product, again, please cite case law or move on.

Dam, I was hoping this thread was going to pick up again, but this isn't what I had in mind!

I frequent a number of self help/diy type sites and it amazes me how these guys always pop up. Maybe he'll just go away if we thank him for saving us from Murphy's doomsday machine. Oh wait, I've already bought the plans. Oh well, guess I'll just update my will and get to building the thing. Smile

So assuming you LOST the first 11 to fires, couldn't you build another wood fired heater, salvage all of the unburned housing material, and use it for heating as well as the doomsday machine? Sounds like a win win situation to me. Wink

Veggyman has no profile and just joined a few days ago. I would say he is just one of those poor lonely souls that needs something to do and this is the best he can come up with.

I thought the thread had been revived as well.
Maybe Veggyman is LOOKING for someone to sue?
gawd, the high fuel prices bring out all sorts of whacko's preaching impending doom!

You are welcome!

If you see ANY smoke, its almost always due to a lack of combustion air from the small fan... Kick up the air volume or pressure, or drill a few extra holes in the burn tube and the smoke will go away.
