Have you ever made a mistake from assuming something? From not double-checking some detail, even if it's something you remember doing yourself just 2 minutes ago? Were you sure that valve was closed because it was supposed to be?
Beyond those things we can control, how often do we test our meters before we take them 'live'? Is the plastic tube you ordered the one you got? What's really in that oil and could it hurt someone if it is heated and releases a vapor of some kind?
The Philosophy:
I had a negative experience today with a business, based on a preconceived notion I had about one of their customers I had met previously. Hopefully what I learn from this experience will be worth more to me in the future than the dollars it may have cost me.
