Anyone making or want to make BD in Honduras. I plan to start processing in a couple months. I'll be building a large shop on my property with plenty of room for expansion. I'm located in the region of Santa Rosa de Copan.

Cauno:
I have most everything located. Tomorrow I,ll be heading toward Tela to locate the palm oil cooperative. I'll be processing both new palm oil and wvo. I´ve located chemicals in San Pedro Sula. Don´t have the company name at hand. They quoted me a price of 2,608 Lempiras for 55 gal. of methanol plus 200 Lemp. barrel deposit. (approx. 19 Lemp./$) Can´t remember the price of NaOH. Not sure if they carry KOH. It´s imperative that you have a registered empresa and RTN # to buy the chemicals. I'll locate the name and # of the chemical outlet for you. They should know of a place in Teguc.
About 3 weeks ago the Teguc. paper had a story about 3 or 4 buses beginning service in Teguc. running on Bio.

I am working on a project with some fellow students at Whitman College to help get some biodiesel projects started in Honduras. We are thinking of working with a few local NGO's like Sustainable Harvest to teach people in rural villages how to build biodiesel processors and get a grassroots biodiesel industry off the ground.

What are you both working on?

I`m trying to get some reasonably priced fuel into this area; both for myself and to sell. Presently the nearest service station is about 12 kilometers away, 8 of which is bad road. Fuel prices are a bit higher here as we are maybe 5 hours from the coast where ships offload the fuel. A couple enterprising individuals load up a few barrels of gas and diesel in their pickups and sell it in town for an even higher price. There are several villages farther in the hills that must pass through my town to get fuel.
I`ll be training a few individuals to process biodiesel.
What part of Honduras are you looking at to start your projects?

I currently work at a small sustainable biodiesel plant in the north of California and we are interested in exporting our model.
So we are going to try Honduras, were I am originally from.

Scott Thank yoyu for your info

I received a cuote from a company base in the states $2.25 a galon they said this price is for 55 gallon barrel and include the barrel.
the other thing is they only sale in large quantities.

We are still in the planning stage of our project, but we are thinking of working with Sustainable Harvest, and possible another non-profit organization; we will go wherever we are needed.

We were thinking that the best way to get biodiesel processing to the people that need it was to train different non-profits that are engaged in the communities so that they could pass the knowledge down for us. We are only a group of students and only have a summer and figure this would do the most good with what we can give.

We are thinking that at the end of the summer, we will host an international small scale biodiesel conference. We want all the NGO's, peace corp members, and community leaders to attend that can make it. Hopefully we can spark enough interest, as well as train enough people that biodiesel can really start to spread in a sustainable way.

Do you have any thoughts on how we could improve our plan, or any desire to work with us?

Cuano, what kind of model does your company use?
we were thinking of using a two stage process out of a processors built from two oil barrels (kind of like an appleseed processor from journeytoforever.org) Can you think of a better design to use?

Thanks for all your help,
Curt

This is a question that we have struggled with a lot, but being a bunch of college kids, and not engine experts it is one that we don't know how to answer.

Does anyone know the answer to this question?

Curt

When I mention model I mean the way we run our bussines,
We are a company owned by a group of community members(Investors)and workers with an enviromental, sustainable agenda.

The technology to make the biodiesel will depend on the feedstock that is available in Honduras.

Cool,
We are hoping to spread a processor design that uses two 55 gallon drums with some welded fittings . We figured this would be a versatile size for small communities as well as to introduce the batch system. We are hoping to train different NGO's (for example, Sustainable Harvest) how to use the technology so that they can begin spreading it as well.

What kind of project are you thinking of doing Cauno?

Well Curt

My trip next April to Honduras is to study the whole posibility of setting up a small plant(batch processing), from deciding feedstock to what type and design of the reactor and is the best suitable for Honduras ,
Your idea of using barrels is good ,in my case I will study what is the best materials avialible to build my reactor, wash tanks,etc..

Cauno, it sounds like we are engaging in really simmilar projects. What kind of investment is your company interested in doing? Do you see any possibilities for collaboration?

SVO is an excellent option here. I believe it´s a matter of educating the public. Biodiesel is a very new concept here and not everyone is going to buy into the idea until they are assured that it´s OK to put it in their tank. Same thing for SVO.

Cauno & Curt:
I'm still trying to firm up sources of WVO. I figure with transportation costs of hauling 10 barrels of oil plus methanol from San Pedro Sula included, the process/sell spread at Santa Rosa, Copan diesel prices is about 13 lempiras/gallon. Diesel here is 53+/gal. I want to sell at about 45.
If you know of a source of WVO it would sure help.

Cauno: I would love to hear your thoughts on our project proposal if you get a chance. Keep me updated with your april trip =)

Steve: We have a group who is looking into this exact same issue. If I see any waste oil sources in your area I will definately send them your way. What kind of processor are you thinking of using?
