One more thing, can anyone direct me to regulations regarding methanol storage in a residential area? I have a good source of WVO, which will be dewatered and filtered but they wont give it to me unless I show to them that I wont be breaking any laws buy having biodiesel/methanol stored on my property. I am actually not native to SA so I don't really know where to go for this info... Any help will be much appreciated.

Try speak to your local fire department. They should have a fire inspector who might be able to help you.

I am sure you wont break any laws with the biodiesel, the methanol might be a different thing though. I would imagine the same regulations with respect to storing petrol would apply.

I am in JHB so we might have different bylaws. Who is your source of dewatered oil if I may ask? Like to get some up here Smile

I have recently found out about biodiesel and would be very interested in making contact with anyone in Cape Town interested in homebrewing/small-scale production.

Looking for parties with knowledge of biodiesel fuel manufacturing and suppliers of plant to set up a medium scale commercial plant within Southern Africa - possible joint venture depending on specifics. Am in a position to provide land and inputs plus already own filling stations which can distribute product on commercial scale. All responses considered.

I'm based in Maputo, Mozambique and I too am looking into possibilities in small-scale commercial processing, initially for the local/regional market. I'm definitely interested in JVs/parterships, please get in touch. My background is not engineering/technical but rather commercial/management/public affairs. Obtaining cheap capital should not be a problem in Mozambique (full of donors promoting private sector development) as long as a good business plan is presented. Currently sizing up operating costs and revenues to check feasability, would be interested in advice and pricing estimates.

Here's an interesting article on the potential introduction of Jatropha curcas as a possible source of oil for biodiesel production in South Africa. The article is from the Water Research Commission's magazin Water Wheel: http://www.wrc.org.za/downloads/waterwheel/sep-oct%2005/Jatropha%20p14-17.pdf

Documentary screening in Cape Town:

THE END OF SUBURBIA
Oil Depletion and the Collapse of the American Dream

This acclaimed documentary explores our modern way of life and its prospects as the planet approaches a critical era in which with global demand for fossil fuels are beginning to outstrip supply. World Peak Oil and the inevitable decline of fossil fuels are upon us now, some scientists and policy makers argue in this documentary.

The consequences of inaction in the face of this global crisis are enormous. What does Peak Oil mean for the 21st century? As petrol, food and energy prices skyrocket in the coming years, how will the populations of suburbia react to the collapse of their dream? Are today's suburbs destined to become the slums of tomorrow? And what can be done NOW, individually and collectively, to address this crisis?
