Out of consideration for other forum users, a quick translation is that HCR lived in Co. Westmeath for ten years (are you a fellow paddy then, or a Sasanach who picked up the lingo?), but regrets that he hasn't any information about biodiesel in Ireland.

EcoEire doesn't know too much about the biodiesel situation in Ireland, but reckons there'll be more interest in biofuels soon because of impending carbon taxes. He's an engineer and is interested in the end-use(?) of biofuel.

Then I've added that I'm from Co. Wicklow originally & have covered about 30000 miles on biodiesel (which I get from Terry UK) by now. I've suggested that when I'm down there during the summer, we might meet up.

At least, that's what I've told you all!

What sort of prices are you guys paying in Eire for Supplies

I have been offered NaOH at 1 euro per Kg (inc Vat)
and Methanol at about 60 cent a liter (inc Vat)

are these good prices or has anyone a better source

I used to live across the road from the Friary/college and catch trout in the Gaine - the small river which runs through it.

It is nice to use a bit of Irish again. I think it is a beautiful languageand I don't want to lose it. I don't really get a lot of chance to use it these days.

By the way, those ag students were all a bunch of p*ssheads! Which years did he study there?

Can't remember exactly, but it would have been around 1986-87 or so. He had to quit the ag science because of developing a severe case of farmer's lung, then chopped & changed studies a few times & tried a couple of years at computer programming before finally settling on Psychology. He's now a behavioural consultant!

Actually, it was partly down to his studies at ag college that I first became aware of alternative fuel as a young teenager. He did a project based around the Portglenone Monastery system of using methane from animal effluent for fuel. He also spent time at Warrenstown. I can't remember if it was there or Multyfarnham that operated/introduced a similar system while he was there. I remember being fascinated by the concept, really pleased even at age 14 that we didn't have to rely on fossil fuel for energy.

I would be interested in meeting. As I have mentioned earlier, I am a chartered engineer working in the building industry. My interest comes from studies I undertook for a holiday home venture approx two years ago where the client was looking at sustainability as a market. I did some explorative work on the viability of an anerobic digester for this facility. Seemed to stack up quite well given the location of his site - (Cavan district) - Project did not proceed however for various reasons.

Anyhow, getting back to the point, I am hoping to purchase a diesel vehicle (funds permitting!!) which I can convert to biodiesel in the near future - and thats how I found this forum - I was also thinking of the bigger picture -
If you are planning to meet up I would be interested.

Talk about 'English as a foreign language'

Nice to see that some members are keeping up the old traditions, even if I don't understand a word of it. And I suspect that Babelfish won't touch this with a long pole.

Agreed, I am all in favour of retaining ones own language. I believe that it is a good thing to have english as a common language to enable most people to communicate. (Russian, Spanish and French seem to be the other local favourites. Babelfish is a great help here) A sort of lingua franca (HCR, is that correct ?) but also it is important to be able to speak a few words of the local language of any country you visit. Even simple things like greetings and 'please, thank you' do make all the difference in helping you fit in.
Having travelled about a bit I have these in perhaps eight languages. But I still have to be carefull with Kalimera and calamari when on holiday in Greece.
