Hi Bruce,
I'm Ken and i live in the Philippines particularly in Manila. As for tranfering here and making BD i don't think its a good idea. To give you an idea, copra(coconut meat) where we get coconut oil sells for around P13.00/kg. and you still have to extract the oil from this. Petro Diesel here sell for only P12.55 these days. I have calculated that methanol and NaOH will be around P3.50 per liter of coconut oil used making BD cost at least P16.50/liter assuming that a kilo of copra makes 1 liter of oil. The only viable source is from used vegetable oil which people are not throwing away but selling to hog raisers and people like me who make BD for our own uses so there is quite some competion already. You can try staying up in the jungle(where copra would be cheaper) but the peace and order situation is not good with all the kidnappings especially foreigners(muslim bandits like americans particularly)for their propaganda. Presently 2 American couple are still being held, already 6 months and no end in sight. The American troops are here so hopefully these bandits will be exterminated like insects. If you have any questions, i would gladly try answering them. Regards Ken Chua |

Just joined. I am in La Union province and making BD for 2 months. I disagree with Ken Chua. I have to purchase from JolliB etc at a price of P60-100 per can (17kg) used oil. Buying chemicals is easy in Manila. The finished product costs me around P10 per litre against P15+ pump price. It works 110%

That is why i said that making BD from Copra is out of the question. As for making Bd from "used" vegetable oil. Its the only way to go if u can get a steady supply or know somebody at Jollibee, mcdonalds, or other fast food chain.
I'll be very glad if u can find me someone who wants to sell at that reasonable price regards quote: |

Hi there.. i'm new here.. and i'm also from the Philippines.
There is already a company manufacturing biodiesel here in the Philippines. And it has been tested by the Dept of Environment and Natural Resources in their vehicles. It is from Senbel. That is what i am currently using on my diesel MB. Although I dont use 100% biodiesel, coz as of now the biodiesel here cost about 59.25 pesos per liter. Still expensive to use. Probably because it is still in its infancy stage, and because there is no clear competitor to bring down the prices. Add to that the fact that the govt still is not subsidizing the cost of producing it. tsk..tsk..tsk.. Oh well.. i run my MB diesel on 5% biodiesel for now.. there are times i run it at 10%, if i have extra money... Nice to see some Filipinos interested in Bio-diesel.. we sure do need it here. Kiwi Bruce, you could bring it here... a competition would definitely make the prices go down and be more affordable to the diesel riders here. Hi Mike,
Biodiesel is great. Its good for the environment. Its good for the farmers. Its good for the climate. this is one time where more supply is better and it will all start from either palm or coconut oil. Right now, making it from WVO is the cheapest way. Hopefully it catches fire and congress get rid of the CARP and allow people to have palm plantations. And be careful of methanol fumes. Just had a close one the other day when the glycerine/naoh/methanol stuff splatter when i was transfering it. Got some in my eye and it hurt like !@#$. goes to show accidents can happen so wearing proper safety equipment is a must. regards Ken |

Hi Camil,
I am from Malaysia and I have a method of converting Refined Palm Oil (RBD) into palm diesel WITHOUT using methanol and KoH. The methanol can kill or blind you. The present price of RBD is RM 1,600 (USD 420) per ton which is RM1.44 (US$ 0.37) per liter. The catalyst to convert RBD to biodiesel cost RM0.35 sen (US 0.09) per liter. Please know whether it is viable in Phillipines or anywhere else. The Malaysian technology is available for commercialisation. Marvel Enterprise Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia email: dakini1988@yahoo.com |

Hi all,
I'm Mike, an american working with a livelyhood project near Antipolo City. I'm just starting to put together a simple processor and wash system for biodiesel. I know there are homebrewers around but have never talked to any. Would love to learn from you if your still out there. Mike |

hello mike, alanha, and all-
abbreviated version of long story follows: I'm chuck, a volunteer in baguio city. trying to work with biodiesel. DOST-CAR regional office interested. we lack expertise. bad info at journeytoforever.org cost us many lost months. time as volunteer set to end in maybe april. would like to get something at least on a sustainable path, maybe stick around longer to help see it through. specifically: mike - i wish i read your post a week ago. i was just in manila. might be back there early december. would like to see what you got going on if you have time. alanha - likewise would like to see what you got. where in la union are you? i'm not familiar with bauang, but looking at a map it seems it could be a very easy trip from a baguio - san fernando bus. i could take trip out that way very easily. anybody else - contact me via this thread and we can try to set something up. ingat kayo, chuck |

Hi. I've recently decided to dabble into this Biodiesel business. Are there BD co-ops in Manila? I have no background in Chemistry, and would like to know more about making one's own BD. Where is the best place to look for such information? I have no idea where to start.
