One of the projects that the NW Biodiesel Network is involved in is called Centrobiodiesel. The mission of this project is to promote the use and production of biodiesel in small scale settings throughout Central America.
Our current work is focused on

• Education – Development of outreach and curriculum materials for both the general public and for specific Centrobiodiesel projects. We are currently developing a variety of materials via a collaborative "wiki" site at:
  centrobiodiesel.pbwiki.com
  
• Biodiesel Production Pilot Projects -Development of small to medium size biodiesel processing facilities, either for micro/private markets or for small vehicle fleets. At present there are three mini-processor projects and workshops that centrobiodiesel is supporting this summer. These are also listed on the wiki site.
  

through this work we hope to:

• Provide Economic Assistance to Farmers - A number of seed oil plants can yield annual oil harvests that would allow farmers to produce between 1,000 and 3,000 liters of biodiesel per hectare per year. Given current diesel prices (about 80 cents per liter), these crops would provide a viable income source, even for small farm sizes.
  
• Support Sustainable Agriculture Practices. The cultivation of seed oil crops can be beneficial to the land and local ecosystem. Given the potential for seed oil crops to produce viable incomes, their use can be an important part of an overall sustainable agriculture program for a given region.
  Contribute to renewable energy production and energy independence for communities in the region.
