What would cause the salt in the bottom to speed up gravity settling? I don't understand the physics of that.

Sorry...should've clarified. Not enhance gravity...salt attracting the water in the WVO. That's what I meant by helping gravity.

How will salt in the bottom of the barrel 'attract' water distributed throughout the BD?
You had the right idea with the upflow column.
