This could be really interesting:
The University of Oxford has developed a process for converting biodiesel byproduct into methanol
abstract here
They claim the conversion takes place at low pressure and temperature.
Patents have been applied for and they looking for commercial developers.

Excellent ! With that and converting biodiesel glycerine to ETHANOL something positive shouldn't be too far off.

Anyone have any ideas as to how this is done? And can it be done by a homebrewer like me? I would love to get more use out of my glycerine!

I believe it involves a Hydrogenation step which is definately not something the average homebrewer wants to get into.
