Last night I decided to try and make biodiesel out of some old Crisco lard that we were going to throw away. I now see why it is much harder to work with. The temperature was almost 130 before the container reached an all liquid state.

But I did something wrong! Maybe not enough(no) research.

I mixed
910 ml of Crisco Lard
210 ml of methanol
7.5 gm of KOH

I did not have enough lard for 1L, and I had the Methoxide already mixed.

I heated to approx 130 and stirred for 3 hours

At first it was a milky color for maybe 1 1/2 hours. Then it turned a red or amber color like most of my biodiesel tests, and I thought I was ok.
This morning the mixture is still solid. The mixture is not as solid as lard, but definitely not liquid of any part. There is some separation of layers, but it does not look like as much as I would have thought.

Since I started this I want to see it through.

Any recommendations? Or what did I do wrong?

Thanks

If your feedstock is solid at room temperature it isn't going to change that much after processing.

You heated up to 130 and processed and when it cooled it gelled.

At least that is what it sounds like.

Btw, you stated that you used 7.5g/l as a base amount and you didn't say anything about titration.
