Really I was worried about it being shortening, since a friend of mine had mentioend to stay away from shortenings..I shrugged off his comment and came directly here for "real" answers.

Canola "liquid shortening" will make fine biodiesel and will get you a fairly decent gel point as well, unlike most other partly hydrogenated oils.
