JohnTF,

March 20, 2008, the Nathional Biodiesel Board released the following study report confirming Biodiesel is safe for underground steel tanks. This is not exactly what was being discussed here, but the study does seem to point to the fact the we can store our biodiesel in mild steel tanks with less reaction than with regular ULSD. The conclusion is set forth on the first page and is only 2 pages long.

sorry for hijacking, just curious. this is what we are thinking about doing.

I'm not sure why, but nitrogen blanketing is pretty common. I would bet CO2 would work, but I dont' know if there are any ramifications of using it.

Alken , I wish I had a connection to some of the readings on bio in steel tanks , since now we are looking for detailed info .
It is possible that some of those statements about bio reacting with carbon steel had there issues also .
But again reading this document , is all it is relating to , is the steel reacting / rusting / corrosion to bio , not the bio reacting to the carbon steel .

Would excaust from a tail pipe from a running car scavenge O2 , it would be alot cheaper than CO2 if it would work. just a thought
