I was out on my weekly grease-day routine, almost going home empty handed. (I expect there is another greaser in the "hood") I stopped at a small mexican restaurant who's grease bin was about 3/4 full. When I started pumping it into my jugs, I noticed how amazingly clear this oil is. Very clear AND light beer colored. Much to my surprise, this oil tested at 5.7. I repeated the test many times, all about the same. I normally am titrating at 1.5-1.8. Those in the know about oils, has this oil been used too long? I will shy away from this source now. This site is clean and they keep the cover on the opening Smile

5.7 KOH or NaOH?

big difference...
5.7KOH just use as is. NaOH...maybe not..
I only use KOH so I cannot answer accurately about NaOH.

if you can get the oil take it home and remember "the solution for polution is dilution" mix it off with your "good stuff" in order to avoid skimming it seems to me that if at all possible you should talk to the owner and see if you can get them to set the oil out for you or get your own barrel, because(correct me if im wrong) technically by taking oil from the dumpster (unless its owned by the resturant)you are stealing from the renderer
just a thought
good luck with the oil though
perhaps you could treat it with baking soda (another thread deals with this in the SVO forum)to lower the titration
just recently i made some biodiesel from 9.3 titration (NaOH) stuff awfull!!!
again good luck

most problems can be solved with the suitable application of Science, Engineering or light explosives
