Well I wasn't thinking today when I processed my last batch. Did my titration and forgot to at th 7g/l for koh. I processed my fuel with the titration koh only and then did a 5% prewash. What are my options at this point?

thanks

Reprocess is the only way to save that batch. The 5% prewash is the problem. You would need to separate the glycerin from the undereacted oil first. Then start over. I have sucessfully reprocessed a batch but not with the prewash.

Kick yourself in the hiney, then dry the WVO and try it again. I am sure you have a lot of suspended water, so heat it up as much as possible and turn it over in the air if you can. Otherwise just let it set for a day or so after heating to drop the water out of the oil.

Any water in the mix will immediately grab catalyst and lower your possibility for a complete conversion. Be sure to 27/3 test the batch when done.

Once it is dry, (heating, settling and pulling off any water from the bottom) How much methanol should I use? Also, should I just add the missing koh I forgot to put in?

thanks

I'm thinking the water and drying will remove the methanol from the first attempt. 20-22% and retitrate for KOH ammount

Should the oil titrate lower(in theory) since it had already been processed once?

Please note that now that you have the methanol in there, you can't air dry the bio-oil without evaporating lots and lots of methanol in the process. The meth will come out a lot faster than the water.

Approach with caution and don't gas yourself.

Good luck with that, and let us know how you come out.

If this were mine I would put in an open top barrel outside. Let it set for a few weeks before considering a do over. Just my $.02.

I typically start by gently bubble washing my diesel to prevent problems with soap etc. Since I have very little conversion could I be a little more aggressive?

how much glycerin byproduct did you get, and what was the titration for this batch originally?

The oil titrated at 3.5. 140l batch - 490 g koh added to methanol. It looks like I have about 1.5 gallons (~6l) of biproduct.
