In my ChemE design course my group and I are creating biodiesel fuel as our design project; the only part we are real stuck on is how to figure out the amounts of reactants we need to use in the process.
Our goal is to produce as close to 10 Liters of biodiesel fuel as possible. How do we determine how much WVO to start with? And, will the amounts of lye and methanol be different every time depending on the specific titration? Thanks in advance for any help given - it is a greatly appreciated!

Why not produce more than ten and measure out what you need?

If it is just a project, why not use new canola oil instead of WVO. The titration would never change this way. From what I have read you can expect around an 85% yield of the original oil used.
