Hi all,

Since all the oil I get titrates well below one, I can't get a real good feel for this test, so I'm asking if someone with high-titrating oil could run this...

1) Take a sample of high-titrating oil, titrate, and record.

2) Now, take a liter of that same oil, mix in 3 to 4 crushed up TUMS or ROLAIDS (or the antacid of your choice), making sure it dissolves. Record which antacid you use.

3) Re-titrate and record.

4) Post your results.

I think you know where I'm going with this....

some other people have been playing with baking soda....

same idea, add a base to neutralize the acids....

produces a salt which ends up ???

Yep, I know. I want to see how calcium carbonate differs from sodium bicarbonate in the acid neutralization process.

One may be more effective than the other, which will help cost and speed of the process as a whole.

Not real sure why you zeroed in on salts, but note that there isn't any sodium to start with in calcium carbonate.

Chemically speaking you are going to end up with a "salt" anytime that you combine a base...like any anti-acid, with anything acidic...like used vegetable oil. Sodium salt or calcium salt...plus you should also get some water...chem 101, at least as I remember it.

Are you trying to make the oil burp?
I use Bi-Carb soda, it is a lot cheaper.

No, I just want to see if there is a magnitude style difference;

I get a big bottle of acid reducer here for a few dollars. If it only takes one or two tablets to accomplish the same thing, and if it does so in a quicker manner, etc.

Just some research.......
