YES
infact you could just pour the oil straight into the fuel tank with your normal diesel and use it that way HOWEVER you will have a marked increase in smoke from the exhaust and increase output of particulate matter and other bad stuff I dont know if it will affect your MPG or LTR PER K and if done too much could upset your injectors maybe a mechanic could answer this one?? Some of the modern hiway tractors pump small amounts of sump oil from the engine into the diesel tanks avery so often and then automaticaly top up the sump from a seperate oil tank on the vehicle. This allows them to extend the oil change
interval considerably. I believe that the maximum concentration of used engine oil that should be added to the diesel fuel is recommended to be in the range of 1 to 2% by the engine manufacturers. Used oil should be adequately filtered (5 to 10 microns) before adding to diesel fuel. Perrin L. Hayes Mercedes 300SD Vancouver, BC. |

giday, ive heard of sumpoil being made into bio
but with limited results, it ran the motor ok but not for long, apparantly it clogged up the injecters and eventually destroyed the motor, this info came from a local diesel mechanic, he actually had positive things to say about bio made from veggie oil, cheers dan |

"ive heard of sumpoil being made into bio" I dont think that sump oil could ever be turned into anything considered as qualifying to be termed Bio (living)Still maybe our fossil fathers will jump on this idea in their pursuit for the Clean Green Image. |

Used sump oil is full of all sorts of nasties, many are carcinogenic. If simply burnt in the engine these compounds will pump out of the tail pipe. I'm talking about heavy metals and dioxins so we need to think carefully what we burn as fuel.
This does not make usede sump oil unsuitable as fuel, but first it should be cleaned up. Centrifuging out all the particulates is a good start. But why go to all that hassle just to burn it? The oil itself is not damaged, so why not re-use it Makes far more sense to collect the oil, clean it, top up the lubricant and viscosity additives and use it again as sump oil. |
