Up to now I have been titrating using Koh at the rate of 9g + titration a friend tells me it is easier and more accurate to titrate using Noah, and adding Koh at the rate of 3.5g + titration X 1.4 /.9 Example: so for a 100 litre mix using Koh I would normally use 9g + say 4.5g = 13.5g x 100 =1350 grams
whereas using my friends formula I would use 3.5g + 4.5g = 8g x 1.4 / .9 = 12.44g x 100 = 1244 grams
He also uses les Methanol approx 17%
who is right?
I have tried his method and I have had to re react so ended up using more Methanol and Koh than I would have originally used, I would really welcome some advise
Thanks Keith

Your friend is confused a bit. The 3.5g comes from Journey to Forever's website and it is for NaOH. It has been shown many times on this forum that 3.5 grams NaOH is not enough for the base. What has been shown to work here is a base of 5 for NaOH & about 7.5 for KOH. I think most KOH is around 90% pure, so you have to increase the base to account for purity. I have only used NaOH for reactions and have been able to decrease the base to 4.5grams on byproduct pretreated oil. I have also been able to reliably decrease the methanol to 17.5% using a two stage base/base process.
