after months of lurking around the board, I finally made my 1st dr. pepper BD and also my 1st post.

although I used a coke bottle, does that make it the "Coke Technique" Big Grin

When I 1st shook the bottle I thought it was a flop since the oil did not change color, like what I've read here that it turns to chocolate milk in color, but after a while it settled.

I have this semi-solid glycerine at the bottom, like gel, then this liquid glycerine, then clear BD.

I decanted the BD to another bottle, w/ a little of the liquid glycerine

After this I tried washing (dr. pepper style), It's all murky, it's does not separate even after a day, I also put a pinch of salt in my wash, but I don't think it's enough. the bottom part has this white stuff, which I assume is water.

Is it a disaster? what should I do to bring it back to the clear BD before washing. Confused

and how do I get that semi-solid glycerine out of the bottle?

No, the Coke Bottle Technique is old news

Yes, I have noticed that the few times I have used 250ml methanol the change is not as spactacular, just a bit more reliable. Next time reduce your methanol to 200ml and the changes in colour should be more noticeable

Can you be a bit more specific as to exactly what is in your wash bottle now. Is it all just one colour emulsion or what.
The glycerine you put in the wash bottle will cause you problems as there will be soap in it too.

Heat it up

thanks Tilly

Yesterday I got separation already, but still not good. I got hazy BD on top and white liquid at the bottom, but when I looked closely I have this middle layer, mixed bd and water and soap?

anyways, I drain the bottom layer (all white) and added water, and shook it gently this time.

this morning, I got separation, hazy BD and white liquid, think I should do some more washing

hope the clarity goes back to the pre-wash BD I made

Yes, it will be biodiesel on top with wash-water on the bottom and some emulsion of biodiesel water and soap in the middle

OK, you are now back on track. It will almost surely require several more washes. You are finished when the wash water on the bottom is nearly clear and you can see through the water.

It takes a day or three after your last wash to get clear biodiesel if you leave the open Dr Pepper bottle set in the sun. It WILL work, faith and patience is all that is required.
