Hi Cig,

More info would help...

Run time?
Water % in oil?
Mixing?
Temp.?

Also, I suggest doing 3/27 on samples before you shut down and before your pre wash.

Here is a recent post about 3/27:

"Potential Sources of Low Conversion:
Water in oil - see http://www.biodieselcommunity.org/quantitativewatertest/ You want less than 1%, hopefully lower.
Low methanol - 20% is not enough to pass 3/27 in all cases. Start with 22%, and once you pass easily, work your way down.
Short run time - I suggest at least 2 hrs if you process at 130f. Do your 3/27 test in process and shut it off AFTER you pass.
Slow tank turnover - without seeing your static mixer set-up, it impossible to say, but some people who use static mixers have seemed to observe that the mixer was slowing down the flow rate enough that in-tank turnover became too slow.
Catalyst amount - while 7 (adjusted for purity) is considered the minimum base, many here, including myself, use higher #'s to get higher conversion. I use 9 (adjusted, so really 10) as my base. Consider starting with 8 adjusted.
Vent is too open? - Without seeing your vent, there is no way to tell if you might not have it set up well and you might be loosing some methanol.
Methoxide added too fast - if you only draw from the bottom port, you may want to add the methoxide even slower. Like 30 min. I have not seen precise testing on this, but adding it more slowly has resolved this issue for people in the past.

Potential Error in 3/27 Testing:
Production methanol - I have seen batches of production methanol that work fine for 3/27 and other batches from the same source that don't and cause a false fail. I suggest using Yellow Heet. So far, this has given good tests every time for me.
Unwashed/Prewashed - this test is best done on washed and dried fuel. It can be done on unwashed, non-prewashed fuel, but it is somewhat less accurate that way. It can't be done accurately on fuel once water has been added.

Keep us posted with your next batch."

From this thead.

If you use the search feature, you may find that you question has been answered recently. Sometimes...

i ran the mix for 2 hrs at around 10 gal a min
at 130 there was no water in oil, did a sputter test no popping
when you do the 3/27 test before shutting down do you have to let the glycerin settle out of the sample before testing?

took a 1 litre sample of this batch and, added 1.5 grams of lye w/ 35 ml of meth, ran in blender for 30 min seem to have more glycerin settling out of this mini batch as well as what looks to be a small amount of soap
thanks for all the help
